what we've been up to

A little snipit of some things we've been up to the past couple weeks....

I was getting sick of the decor montage I had on the wall over my kitchen cart. So I spray painted a few old frames, added some cork board and stickers and voila. I love it!

I've got myself Mr. Domestic over here. He already cooks and cleans, and now he sews! He made his little girl the cutest baby blanket.

I've been wanting to try my hand at homemade bagel making for awhile now and finally did. They turned out so dangerously delicious! I have made them twice now, and liked this recipe the best.

Everytime we go to the gym, Beck asks to go swimming, so we finally took him. The water itself was a tad chilly and he kept on saying "I too cold mommy!"

This little guy loves to play on daddy's ipad. I'm amazed at how well he can navigate that thing.

And last, but certainly not least, we bit the bullet and transferred Beck to his big boy bed! We've had the bed for a few weeks and have been talking it up, but didn't get a mattress until the other day. I wasn't quite ready to make the transition (I may have been having a little anxiety over giving up that control and admitting that my baby was old enough to sleep in a real bed), but that night as we were going through the bedtime routine, he asked repeatedly to sleep in his "new bed." I knew I couldn't discourage it, so I laid him down, covered him up, took a deep breath and shut the door. I couldn't believe it when I didn't hear a peep from him until the next morning! Honestly, I'm shocked at how well he's done--bedtime has produced no issues at all and while naps have been a little more difficult, its nothing that a little bribery hasn't fixed and at least he's still taking them!

This was yesterday during naptime. He always puts his blanket on the side of his head when he sleeps, but this time it was covering his whole face! Oh and don't mind his purple pillow....I will be getting a new pillowcase for him :)

He loves his new bed and everymorning when I go to get him out, he always exclaims "I sleep in my bed all night mommy!"

Whew. It feels good to be able to cross that major item off my list!

30 down, 10 more to go

{30 weeks}

Baby girl's a growin that's for sure. She just keeps on getting bigger and more ready to come out each week. I on the other hand, am not at all ready for her. I finally sat down and wrote quite the lengthy "to do" list. It's funny how by this time with Beck, I had everything done- nursery complete, clothes all washed and put away, etc. I did, however, get two items crossed off the list yesterday, and my mom's coming to paint this week. Then we tackle the biggest project of all--transitioning Beck to his big boy bed--that's what I'm most nervous about. Just tell me it's all in my head and he'll do great ok?

Physically, this pregnancy is so different, as I've heard they all are. I was less sick early on which was great, but now I've been experiencing some of the not so fun side effects of pregnancy: sore hips and back, vericose veins (they better go away!), a little heartburn, and braxton hicks contractions that have started much earlier this time around. Regardless, I feel great. I've been able to keep up relatively the same work-out routine and have even been running/jogging/trotting still. I've been a lot more mindful of my eating this time around and it has definitely paid off-- I'm on track to gain about half what I did with Beck!

Beck talks about baby sister all the time and always wants to give her kisses. He keeps telling me he wants her to come out, to which now he immediately follows up with a "she's still growin" on his own. I hope his excitement stays once she really does come out :)

One final thing to note- my little sister and one of my best friends are pregnant too and both due (on the same day!) in July! Fun huh?!

how we celebrated

Here I am, finally getting around to posting about our holidays. Who wants to read a Christmas post halfway into January? I know, no one. But now at least I have it documented.

..Temple square lights..

Our first attempt at seeing the lights was short and sweet. It was freezing and way past Beck's bedtime, so we hustled and took a few quick pics just to proove we were there.

..Smoke fest holiday gathering..

The Andersons had us over for another smokefest- holiday style. The food was delish, of course and we topped off the evening with some sugar cookie decorating.

..Christmas Eve bowling..

My family started a relatively new tradition of going bowling on Christmas Eve. This was our first year going and little Mr. Beck absolutely loved it. Just look at his face in these picture (well, not the first one- he learned quick not to put his hands in the way of the balls coming out)

..Christmas Day..

There weren't very many surprises for Travis and I come Christmas morning (Trav surprised me with a fabulous new lens, but a few weeks early!), so it was awesome watching Beck ooo and aaah over his gifts. However, lesson learned, he would have been completely thrilled with his stocking contents and his $5 kids snow shovel!

..Soldier Hollow sledding..

We discovered another favorite activity of Becks when we went sledding with the cousins. He was in heaven! I was a little concerned once we got to the lifts and were told that he had to be in his own tube (the kids are supposed to be 3, but Beck's bigger than some 3 yr olds so we figured he was ok), but he couldn't have been happier to ride to the top in his own tube and sled down with Daddy holding onto him. They went down again and again for 2 hours and were frozen just about solid when they finally were done. This is going to sound crazy coming from me, but I am really hoping from some good snow soon. For his sake only- he l.o.v.e.s it!

..Christmas lights round 2..

We hit the lights again with family the week after Christmas. Much better this time around. It was warm, like borderline not needing a coat warm; we weren't fighting an overtired toddler, and it was much less crowded.

..New Years..

For being my least favorite holiday, this New Years actually was a blast. We started the morning off at Trav's parents for breakfast witht the fam and then just hung out and let the kids play. That night, we kept things pretty low key (just how I like it) and got together with a couple friends for take-out and an evening full of games. It's really a shame I don't have any pictures because it was one of the most fun nights ever. Lots of laughs, thats for sure!

Now I can move onto 2012....and there is lots to move on to!
